Crimper
- Primary for cable termination but can cut and strip cables.
- For ethernet, coaxial and fiber cables.
- Make sure you have the correct terminating end/wire sequence/color sequence.
Punch Down Tool
Terminates cable into a block, patch panel or keystone
Be aware of blade size as the blade is specialized to the block size. Make sure the cutting edge is facing towards the excess length of cable.
Protocol Analyzer
- Plug into network that lets you listen into traffic.
- As simple as Wireshark or a whole special device.
Loop Back Plug
- Takes the send cables and loops them back to the receive port
- Used to verify the NIC functionality
TDR/Time Domain Reflectometer
- Device which sends signals and listens for reflections back.
- Estimate cable length.
- Finds cable faults and splices.
OTDR/Optical Time Domain Reflectometer
TDR for fiber.
Multimeter
- A device that measures electricity.
